FAQ about NJ Education Center Summer Camp Classes

1) How big is the class size usually?

Answer: There are 15 students per class on average.

2) Where is the location of Summer Camp?

Answer: The summer camp will be at Reston Recreation Center.

3) Do you provide child-care on a day to day basis?

Answer: Normal camp time will be from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. Parents can drop kids starting at 8:00 am and pick up kids before 6 pm. That will be counted as extended hour care. For extended care, there will be a charge of each day for each child.

4) Can NJ education Center provideis the teacher's profiles & primary classes for the April English Writing classes and the Summer Camp classes?

Answer: For TJ class of 6-8 graders, the teacher who will be teaching our Essay and Verbal course has many years experience in teaching TJ English writing classes for Chinese background students in this area. She has many years experience in teaching American High schools and college students. Her styles of teaching have been praised by both parents and students.

She has Bachelor's degree in English, Master degree in Education and PHD in world history. Her writing has been used as the basis for news items on both the CBS and NBC networks in the DC area. She has worked in a variety of teaching/reporter/editor positions.

Another teacher who will be teaching our TJ Essay Class has experience on teaching TJ Essay Writing classes and has excellent qualifications for teaching students how to improve their written work. His teaching styles have been praised by both parents and students.

He was a former university professor and US government analyst with more than 20 years experience as composer, editor, and final reviewer of information products for US government officials, including the White House, Departments of State and Defense, and other high level officials

He served for over 20 years as a senior analyst, manager, and trainer in the US government. And wrote and reviewed thousands of intelligence products for the most senior levels of the government, and He trained students in how to think analytically and write concisely.

For the GT Prep class of 1st graders, the class will be taught by FCPS GT Center teachers, they also have many years experience in teaching this program for Chinese background students in this area.

This class is going to focus on training students to get familiar with the types of questions that will appear on the Fairfax county GT tests. There are CogAt and NNAT tests, which will test students' capabilities in different areas. Attending this class will prepare the students in every way, shape, and form to ace the GT exam.

For the reading and writing program of 2-3 or 4-5 graders, there will be a class focused specifically on 2nd and 3rd graders and a separate class focused on 4th and 5th graders.

The primary teachers all have experience in teaching GT center programs in the FCPS system. Our reading and writing programs will focus specifically on particular topics suited especially for your child's grade level.

For 2-3 graders class, we will be focusing primarily on reading comprehension and writing based on specific prompts and topics. This will train the students' ability to answer specific questions after reading about a particular topic and their ability to write a simple essay based on specific prompt.

For 4-5 graders class, we will focusing primarily on improving their writing skills and train the students' ability to argue a well-organized essay based on a specific prompt. This will definitely prepare them for similar tasks on future standardized tests such as TJ test, and the SATs test.

For the Math classes of 2~3, 4~5 or 6~8 graders, the primary math teachers have many years of experience in teaching/coaching students for math competitions over the Fairfax, VA Area. The math teacher has also been training students in Fairfax County Public School math clubs. Other math teachers teaching this program also have teaching experience in the weekend Chinese school system. They all have teaching experience in TJ Math Prep, SAT Math exam Prep.

For the Chinese classes of 2~3, 4~5, or 6~8 graders, NJ Education Center will also be offering courses to strengthen your child's Chinese listening and speaking skills.

The primary Chinese teachers are graduate of renowned normal universities in China. She has had over 10 years of teaching experience at the elementary, middle school, and university level. She is currently teaching Ma Li Ping Chinese class on the weekends in the Herndon area. She will be focusing great attention on teaching students accelerated Chinese speaking and listening skills.

For the Chess classes of K-3, K-5, or K-8 graders, depending on the rating or level, the chess teacher has been teaching chess classes at different levels in various schools and clubs for many years. Many of his students are award-winning chess players in the DC metro area.

5) Will there be other activities offered to students adding to the quiet reading time in the afternoon?

Answer: Depending upon the students' preferences, if they choose to participate in quiet reading time, they may do so. If not, there are various other activities they may participate in, such as chess, dance, Chinese listening/speaking, drawing, and light sports.

6) What activities will occur after the program is over by the end of August?

Answer: We may hold an essay contest on the NJ Education center website. The winners' essay will be posted on the website and we will recommend it for publishing.

We may also hold a Chinese Debate and public speaking contest based on special topics. This will be divided by student levels.

A math competition may also be held.

There will be a chess tournament based on age group.
